Four things must be in place
A compatible model is the first step. Market, carrier lock and device type can also affect installation.
eSIM support
The phone must include eSIM and allow a new mobile plan to be added.
No carrier lock
A carrier-locked phone may reject an eSIM from another provider.
Correct model variant
The same model name can have different SIM support in different markets.

Menu wording varies by model and software. Look for an option to add or download an eSIM.
iPhone
Settings → Mobile Data or Cellular → Add eSIM
On some iOS versions, the option may appear as Add Cellular Plan.
Android
Settings → Connections or Network → SIM manager → Add eSIM
Names and locations vary across Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, Xiaomi and other manufacturers.
